JCI Abag CdO, Iligan and Negros

JCI Philippines Area IV spearheads efforts to provide relief goods to badly hit areas of Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Negros



JUNIOR Chamber International (JCI) yesterday launched the JCI ABAG Cagayan-Iligan-Negros relief campaign for the survivors of the Dec. 17 flash floods in northern Mindanao.

The organization of young active citizens responded to the call of Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama who echoed the call for help from Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano and Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz and Vice Mayor Henry Dy.

They aligned their efforts with the Cebu City Government and collaborated with McDonald’s whose stores in Cebu will serve as receiving centers for donations from kind-hearted Cebuanos.

Emi Rose R. Parcon, JCI Visayas area secretary and lead organizer, disclosed that the JCI initiative is conducted Visayas-wide as mandated by the group’s area vice president for the Visayas, F. Constantine Yu.


Donations gathered in Cebu by JCI’s network and at McDonald’s stores will be coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Services (DSWS) of the city government, and will be collected first on Friday, Dec. 23, then on the following Friday, Dec. 30.

Donations gathered in the cities of Iloilo, Bacolod, Tacloban, Tagbilaran and Dumaguete will also be coursed through the McDonald’s stores in these cities, disclosed Winston Soriano, McDonald’s head of operations in Cebu.

The JCI group also opened the “JCI ABAG Cagayan & Iligan” savings account with account number 193-333-533-3 with China Bank for cash donations with the details of cash donations to be reported to the public through the Cebu City PIO.

JCI chapters in Cebu will also man a special JCI receiving center at McDonald’s Jones from 8AM to 5PM that will also be manned by two staff from the city DSWS, who can receive cash donations as well.

During the coordination meeting at Rama’s office yesterday, the Cebu Association on City and Municipal Public Information Officers (CACMPIO) through the Mayor’s PIO Carlo Dugaduga also committed to collaborate.

Parcon also disclosed that they will organize a concert-for-a-cause tentatively on Rizal Day, Dec. 30, and have made an open invitation to Cebuano bands and artists to lend their talents. They may send their email of support to jci.abag@gmail.com.
